Millinery is a traditional craft that needing a variety of skills and tools to create beautiful hats and headpieces. From steaming and blocking to feather curling and fine stitching, as a milliner you need to consider the balance of the piece, it has to be wearable, it can be silly, smart or sensible but it has to be comfortable to wear.
After graduating from NTU I worked closely with milliner Vivien Sheriff before setting up my own, Lizzie Lock Millinery. I have worked with a variety of clients, most notably working with Bamford for two seasons.
I have always loved using traditional millinery techniques and tools, in particular the beautiful wooden hat blocks to create the crowns and brims. I enjoy designing to a clients brief, adding a contemporary twist and finishing with meticulous attention to detail. Below are a few of my favourite pieces from across the years.
